Magnolia Place
One block long, Magnolia Place, east of Shaw's Garden, runs one way. There are two stone pillars at the entrance and two more at the exit. They're trimmed with brick and Craftsman tiles.
It doesn't take long for the visitor to St. Louis to see that the city is built of brick. The variation is in the ornamentation, and bricklayers were inventive in their craft.
This site will give you an idea of how creative those bricklayers were in the use of brick patterns and incorporation of tiles and other ornamentation.
As I learn to look at the details, more and more of the art and craft of the bricklayer is revealed, and here I offer you some of the visual rewards I have enjoyed.
